I must bring the glaring issue of the pollution caused by digital devices. I need to be judicious and sparing with my use of computers and computerized devices. I need to think about this in terms of appropriate technology. Is my use of thise website appropriate. My first thought is no. I could write all of this down in a notebook (of course, make the paper and ink yourself, and then you’ll see why, before the industrial revolution, writing was reserved for the wealthy and important uses, believe it or not, peasants (with or without the ability to write) did not keep daily journals or any of the other wasteful practices we’ve come up with. Daily journals harkens back to European royalty who would have scribes that would record important events, useful data, etc.), but that is not free from CO2 release either. For the moment, I am going to keep this digital, as, unfortunately, the computer will be on and using resources regardless of my keeping notes here. That’s not to brush it off, but to look at the bigger picture, a tough decision with tough tradeoffs does not need to rushed when other parts of my life are much more wasteful, and more easily remedied. As much as I don’t want to admit it. Computers really do offer a lot over traditional pen and paper notes. Especially when it comes to distributing and collecting information. Edits and rewrites are as painless as can be. Redirects and links make citing (and subsequently reading said sources) easy and quick. And nothing in the physical world can come close to the internet itself. The nearly instantaneous communication and distribution of thoughts and ideas to the entire world. The real question though: are my thoughts and ideas worth sharing? What am I doing that could add to the conversation. Although personal experience and ancedote is okay, I think the best I can do to offer benefit to society is to write good documentation on complicated things I do, experiment with thoughtful experiments and well collected data, and write software that conforms to the principles of correctness, footprint efficiency, developer producticvity/maintainability.

I need to think seriously about post organization. Once it gets large, it will be very time consuming to change. How should I organize my life? Perhaps projects should under a subject category. I have facets and interests to my life, so should those be separated.
It could be roles: Fatherhood, Worker, Farmer. I am not sure this will best encapsulate everything. What if, instead, I break it into high level categories. And I could add role level pages that contain things from those categories. I think that is best, but that brings up a question, what makes a category/subject distinct? Especially when a lot of my interests form in the convergence of many “separate” disciplines. Do I go the traditional route? Do I wait and use a script to change them and any links to them? I should try my best to group disciplines and err on the side of oversimplication than on premature optimization.

So, categories and roles. For the obvious, there is a tech category, a father role, husband role, worker role, and the biggest issue right now, caretaker. In my role as caretaker, I need to make the upkeep of Portland simpler and more efficient.

This is my personal website, written almost entirely for my own consumption. It is on the internet for my benefit, first and foremost. Most things on here won’t be of any interest to anyone other than myself, but knock yourself out.

My current life plan contains my goals and progress for the year.

I am currently focusing on horticulture, Fitness, and hustles, at the moment.
